The Dar al-'Ulum of Deoband is ranked as the greatest institution of its kind in Asia and perhaps second only to the famous Al-Azhar Universty, Cairo, Egypt.

For over a century now, this great seat of Islamic learning occupies an unrivalled place amongst Muslim religious institutions worldwide. About The Book. The Great Scholars of The Deobandi Seminary is a highly inspirational glimpse into the lives and works of some of the luminaries affiliated to Dar al-Ulum Deoband, aptly renowned as the Azhar of the East.

Why the “modern” sciences were excluded at Deoband In view of the difficult and trying circumstances threatening the very existence of the Islamic faith at that time, it was quite natural that the courses of study at the Dar al-Ulum and the other madrassahs should be kept strictly within the confines of religious and theological study.

And, having become an adornment in the firmament of knowledge and action rendered and are still rendering services to religion in different manners in every nook and corner of the history of the Darul Uloom, Deoband, is a historical chapter on an epoch-making period in the history of Islam as a whole.
